Job Description

Role Purpose:

Looking for a Production Foreman – Press to oversee the safe, efficient, and quality-driven operation of the press section. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring production targets are met, quality standards are maintained, downtime is minimized, and that people, safety, and production processes are effectively managed to support operational excellence.

Responsibilities:

Safety, Health & Environment (SHE)

  • Enforce compliance with all safety rules, procedures, and applicable legal requirements.
  • Conduct toolbox talks, safety inspections, and incident investigations to prevent reoccurrence.
  • Ensure high housekeeping standards (5S) are consistently maintained within the press area.
  • Promote a strong safety culture by leading by example and driving safe work practices.

People Management

  • Supervise, lead, and motivate operators and support staff to achieve production objectives.
  • Allocate duties and ensure adequate staffing levels per shift.
  • Manage discipline, attendance, and performance in line with company policies and procedures.
  • Identify training and development needs and coach employees on safe, efficient work practices.

Maintenance & Downtime Control

  • Coordinate with maintenance teams to address breakdowns and planned maintenance activities.
  • Ensure timely reporting and escalation of equipment defects and abnormal operating conditions.
  • Assist with root cause analysis of recurring breakdowns, losses, and downtime.
  • Support preventative maintenance initiatives and plant shutdowns to ensure equipment reliability.

Reporting & Administration

  • Ensure accurate and timely completion of production reports, shift logs, and downtime records.
  • Monitor and analyse key performance indicators (KPIs) including output, yield, efficiency, and waste.
  • Participate in production meetings and contribute to continuous improvement and operational excellence initiatives.

Requirements:

  • Grade 12 (National Senior Certificate)
  • Diploma in Production Management, Operations Management, or Timber Wood Technology
  • 2 -5 years supervisory experience in manufacturing or technical environment
